The bigger the rescue, the bigger the needs.

LOCKABLE VACCINE/MEDICATION FRIDGE
With 65+ mules onsite at all times and 50 or more rescue cases a year, for safety and security purposes, our Refuge needs a small, lockable fridge for vaccines and medications. This fridge would additionally be kept behind a locked door in our barn. View the fridge here. Direct payment and invoice available.

13' PASTURE DRAG
With 65+ mules onsite at any given time, the amount of poop and hay debris can be overwhelming! We currently have a 4’ drag, but would like to upgrade to a 13’ drag for our 14 acre drylot area to make cleaning more efficient for our staff. The cost for a 13’ drag is $1,795. Direct payment and invoice available.

FENCING
With 65+ animals onsite, excellent fencing is a must have. We have replaced as much as we can so far, but it is a long, ongoing, and expensive project. Our property still has several hundred feet of barb wire fence that needs to be replaced with no climb, cedar post fencing to keep our 65+ mules safe and secure (and keep unwanted animals out!). Once all of our barb wire is replaced, we can apply to become a member of GFAS - The Global Federation for Animal Sanctuaries. Fencing can be replaced 100’ at a time. Every 100’ is approximately $40-50 per linear foot. Direct payment and invoice available.

ROUNDBALE STORAGE SHELTER
Our Refuge feeds over 35,000 pounds of hay in 1 month. A structure to protect our roundbales and square bales from sun and rain is crucial for the longevity of our hay and the nutritional value it provides to our 65+ mules.

HAY BALE TRAILER
In the event that our tractor were to break down or need maintenance, we need an alternate way to drop roundbales to 100+ mules every day. Roundbales weigh 800-1,000 pounds, so a round bale trailer that attaches to the back of our pick-up truck or an ATV is the most efficient way to move them. The quote for this piece of equipment is $1,999.

ABI WATER WAGON
A water wagon would be extremely useful to our operation in the event of a down well or frozen or busted pipes. With 122 mules, our daily water consumption during summer is over 1,200 gallons a day. A water wagon would ensure that all of our mules stay hydrated in the middle of any emergency.

STOCK TRAILER
Without a truck and a trailer, a rescue’s operations come to a complete stop. Our rescue currently has one 16’ trailer. While this trailer is used for dozens of rescues, deliveries and vet appointments each month, we could really use a larger stock trailer for rescuing and transporting more mules at a time and draft mules. Our local trailer place has quoted us $15,000 for a 20’ gooseneck straight load stock trailer with a dividing door in the middle.

TILT CHUTE
A tilt chute is an extremely important piece of equipment for our operations. A tilt chute is the only way to safely trim hooves on wild, unhandled mules. Currently we borrow a tilt chute from another rescue, but would love to have our own someday so it is always available. Flying W is one of the only tilt chute manufacturers in the U.S. and has quoted us $39,500.
